While the Nissan TITAN was introduced back for the 2004 model year, it wasn’t until the model’s second generation – which kicked off in 2016 – that the brand introduced its heavy-duty sibling, the Nissan TITAN XD. Unlike its light-duty sibling, the TITAN XD is built on a heavy-duty frame, more akin to the brand’s commercial vehicle line than the TITAN.
For the 2021 model year, both pickup trucks got a mid-generation facelift, updating the models’ design and a few other things throughout. Now, the 2021 Nissan TITAN XD is available right here in the Newport News VA area!
Unlike its light-duty counterpart, the TITAN XD is only available in the Crew Cab configuration with four-wheel drive. Even still, it’s available in six different trim levels: S, SV, PRO-4X, SL and Platinum Reserve. Each one increases the value of features and technologies found throughout the pickup truck, with the Platinum Reserve being the most premium, top-of-the-line variant. Features include everything ranging from safety and connectivity technology, such as Rear Automatic Braking or the 8” display audio system, to the many on- and off-road performance features, like hill start assist and hill descent control.
Even though the TITAN XD is heavier duty than the traditional TITAN, the two trucks are actually powered by the same unit – a 5.6L V8 engine that delivers an output of 400 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. All that power, on top of its heavy-duty architecture and some added features, like its integrated gooseneck hitch, enable it to have some pretty impressive capabilities. To be more specific, the TITAN XD has a max payload of 2,390 pounds and a maximum gooseneck trailering capacity of 11,040 lbs.
