As a battery electric vehicle, the Nissan LEAF isn’t powered by a traditional engine. Instead, a 110 kW AC synchronous electric motor and 40 kWh lithium-ion battery work together to generate power for the 5-door hatchback LEAF. The duo does offer a surprising amount of power, in the form of 147 horsepower alongside 147 horsepower. Perhaps more exciting than that, it allows drivers to travel up to 149 miles on a single charge. You can even get charged up to 80% with just 40-45 minutes of time spent using the quick charge port.

This year, the Nissan LEAF is joined by the Nissan LEAF PLUS, an extended-range version of the electric hatchback. Its electric powertrain is upgraded to a 160 kW AC synchronous electric motor, while its lithium-ion batter is boosted to 62 kWh. This new duo, naturally, enhances performance as well. Horsepower is improved by 45% to an output of 214, while torque is improved to 250 lb-ft. Those are some impressive numbers for the Nissan LEAF! Plus, its range is enhanced to 226 miles on a single charge.
