For nearly three decades, the Altima has been a mainstay on the Nissan lineup. It was first introduced all the way back in 1992, when it was representing the brand’s entry into the compact sedan segment. It wasn’t until its third generation that the vehicle moved up into the midsize sedan segment, arguably the most important and popular sedan segment on the market. The Altima did briefly move back down to the compact segment from 2007 to 2013, but only for its temporary two-door coupe counterpart. Now, the 2021 Nissan Altima is a couple of years into its sixth generation, and remains an excellent choice in its segment here in Newport News VA.
When shopping for a Nissan Altima this year, you’ll have two different powertrains to choose from as well as five different trim levels. This year, Nissan did shift up the order of the trim levels to bring the Altima in line with the rest of the lineup. The new order is S, SV, SR, SL and Platinum, which means the flip flopped the SR and SV trims. Shoppers will also be able to opt for a Premium Package on the SV trim level, which adds three great features – moonroof, heated seats, Intelligent Lane Intervention – to the list of content standard on the SV trim.
Those two powertrain options include the standard 2.5L 4-cylinder option, which is capable of generating a respectable 188 horsepower alongside 180 pound-feet of torque. Of course, you can also opt for the more powerful 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder option, which boosts performance up to an output of 236 hp and 267 lb-ft. of torque. With either option, you’re sure to have an enjoyable experience each time rubber hits the road.
Nissan has also introduced a new Driver Assist Package for the 2021 model year, which you can add to the S grade. It includes even more driver-assistive safety technologies than what comes standard across the board.
